Default 84 Club Car Drive Clutch Replacement

I've got an 84 Club Car with a bad drive clutch, the dreaded Salisbury that nobody wants to shell out the $$ for. I'm looking to replace it but so far have not found anything in the posts I've read that have any information on the output shaft. Mine has a tapered shaft but the replacement clutches I've looked at all have been straight/keyed style. I've also been trying to find information on converting from a tapered shaft to a straight shaft without much luck. Most of the posts I've read say that the 84 clutch setup can be swapped out with the 88 setup. What I need to know is if the output shaft on the 88 is going to be the same as on the 84? I'm trying to avoid doing the trial and error method and not spend the $$$ to get another Salisbury clutch. One other thing I was wondering is if anyone knows whether there's a Comet clutch that will work for this setup? I've been checking with places that sell them but have been referred back to this site so here I am.
I did post a few pics under the heading 84 Club Car Rat Rod in the pictures section.

thanks for reading.

Yes. The output shaft (end of crankshaft) on your 1984 is the same as on a 1988-up model.

I did a video on this. There's also lots of information in the video description.

I checked it out, thanks! One other thing. I replaced the driven clutch so it's relatively new. I can still use that one correct?

One more time... I've been looking at drive clutches and finding some that say they are directional? If they are all the same internally, can this be true? From all that I've read, only the driven clutch is directional.

Technically yes, the drive clutch is directional. The difference is so minor that most people would never even notice if they took it apart. Plenty of people just run them regardless and they work perfectly fine.

Here's my video on this very issue. The only thing making the drive clutch directional are the position of three little metal clips inside the clutch. If you're one who wants to cross every T and dot every I you can flip the clips around and be 100% sure that your clutch is operating as-designed.

I didn't swap mine around when I put a 1997-up clutch on my 1990 Club Car and have had zero issues.
