Gear Ratio Question
On the Icon product fact sheet for the I60L they list the gear ratio as 14:1 high torque rear axle and then add "continously variable"
any idea what continously variable means? |

Re: Gear Ratio Question
Based on my playing with the RPM to speed ratio Id say the gearing is "continuously variable" lol. I have no idea what it means but Ive failed to find a constant factor by which to divide RPM and get speed. Would really love to know whats going on

Re: Gear Ratio Question
Has anybody come up with a definate answer for this ?
The RPM's not matching the MPH is interesting but that might just be the refresh rate in the data being different. A parts manual would be a nice start for these carts. A service manual would be awsome. I am thinking about pulling the trigger on one of these carts. A friend of mine just bought one and I was able to snap it around the campground last weekend. Great bang for the buck. But His is not lifted and I was unable to see the rear diff. What I could see reminded Me of Yamaha. I am just leary about down the road as far as repairs go. A variable diff could be spendy if something broke. I do have confidence in the Toyota motor and controller. Stating a gear ratio followed by the word variable makes Me scratch My head. |

Re: Gear Ratio Question
RPM:MPH is 200:1, so 6000 RPM : 30 MPH.
That should match and you can confirm by connecting the data cable and watching the monitor in the software. The RPM high limit is just a limit, similar to if you removed the governor from your Honda Accord and set the top speed to 200mph. It's just going to go as fast as it can. And dash MPH may not match your GPS mph, but that's just because it's not calibrated very well, big vs small tires, etc. Regarding the CVT + gear ratio...I'm confused too. It could be 2 separate systems linked together? So the electric motor may spin a CVT that connects to a 14:1 transaxle? Maybe the electric motor RPM's resolution is too fine and the CVT allows a good dynamic range? That doesn't make any sense though with 0-6k RPMs easily. No idea. |

Re: Gear Ratio Question
Or maybe the continuously variable just means that the motor varies rpm. Marketing at its best.
