Default GE Controller Tach disable

Does anyone know if disabling or disconnecting the tach wire will cause any serious damage? My Tomberlin is limited to 25mph and I suspect it uses more juice when I am bouncing off the rev limiter. I have identified the wire but not sure what will happen if I disconnect it. (48V 400 amp GE Controller) Any ideas appreciated. DarwinB
