help please! G2 no power to switch
this is my first cart, so I am pretty much lost when it comes to solving a problem on these. The weather was decent yesterday so I decided to ride the cart. It started right up and ran great. Go out this morning to take another ride and nothing. N o power to the switch, so I get my jumper box and try to jump start it , nothing again. I can take a wire and go from the relay to the starter and it will turn over, but won't start. test light shows no power to switch. any ideas?

Re: help please! G2 no power to switch
Check your battery terminals and the cables on the gen (other end of batt cables) connections after checking the fuses. Usually the fuses are in rubber holders in the wires, one positive one neg. Key should be hot all the time, on it makes the pedal switch hot, pedal makes the start relay and coil and ignitor hot via the white/red wire. Your issue is battery to key switch so its the cable clamp or fuse or sometimes the small wires on the start solenoid have connection issues check those, or small wires connected in with the battery cables. Most G2/9 have the connector ends of those small wires replaced by the start relay/solenoid (in front of gas tank by floor). You can follow the key wires to see where they plug into the battery cables and see if you have power there. Note all grounds are wired on a yamaha, so a bad ground causes same issues as a bad hot wire.

Checked the fuses, both were blown. I don't have any glass type fuses so I will get some tomorrow and see what happens then. Thanks to you guys for the help, I'll keep you posted on if the outcome.

Re: help please! G2 no power to switch
Bought the fuses, and that was the problem. Should I look for something that caused them to blow? Thanks to everyone for the help

Re: help please! G2 no power to switch
Yamaha are awesome carts, but old wiring does have its problems. Its cheap to fix but wiring issues are common. If you run any accessories you want to wire them to the battery or use a relay, and wire the ground also or securely ground the frame to the battery. Not doing that will cause problems the frame is not grounded on them. (such as for headlights that ground on the mount). Also faults in the ground wires can cause problems because the power tries to find another ground through something it should not use.

Re: help please! G2 no power to switch
Yep, stupid aftermarket lights! (don't lynch me, i have 'em too). That 15a fuse was meant for the cart, not the cart plus added stuff. Always run your "extra stuff" directly to the battery (both + and - wires, with a fuse). Best deal i ever got on a cart (the one i am using now) had extra stuff wired through the cart wires, with NO fuse. The seat cable spring melted into the gas tank (leaking gas from "new hole"), and the shift cables were "melted goo". I'm lucky (?) I know these things from experience with yamahas. Fuse always! Dont replace with a bigger fuse, run new wires (and new extra fuse) for extra stuff!

Re: help please! G2 no power to switch
Thanks guys, I'm used to doing hotrods so this is great to know. Carts are sort of a world of their own. I am having a blast with this site and the Yamaha.
