Default Club Cart Running Slow

I have a 2001 48volt club cart runs abt 8mph when you first get on it after a full charge and slows in abt 2 mins tops of riding the batts are 2008 all are showing 8.1 volts. Sometimes the cart surges when its running slow like its tring to take back off but never does all connections are tige rust free new batt cables can anybody point me in a good direction

you could try a battery load tester, those batteries are getting up there in age. I had one on my cc that read 8.2v but wouldnt take a load.
