Re: SAMURAI EZGO BUILD 4x4 linked foreman motor 29.5s
You wanted feedback..so, unbelievable fab. I've got a zuuk and a YJ rockcrawler, and this thing rocks! New to carts, but not rock crawling. If you could make a steering box fit, you could run a "redneck ram" with a PS pump. Lots cheaper than the orbital valve, and have steering feedback. At speed, feedback is good. Hydrolic assist eliminates steering shock. Just remember...you have to have steering stops, or the ram will rip the outer"C" off the tube if you oversteer. Feedback helps here too.
I saw you mentioned Cable Hill. North Alabama? I never made it without a cable and breaking a lot of sheit. Watched Tim Cameron tear the outer off the original "Fat Girl" with 5 tons. Course he hit it till he did. Drove it back to camp in reverse with rearsteer. "Y'all Hollah!" Pete |

Isn't the redneck ram a Hydro assist. Would it have enuff *** behind it to just use a hydro steering? Also would it work right with out the pump?

That I'm not sure of. I run it on my jeep so it's street legal (full hydro is not), I drilled and tapped the box and opened up the oriface in the pump for more flow. It turns 38.5x16' s in a bind with a 5.9l v-8 sitting on it. I just suggested it cause when I did the jeep, it was 25% of full hydro.

Re: SAMURAI EZGO BUILD 4x4 linked foreman motor 29.5s
I don't think the assist would work as a stand alone full hydro.
The steering box has a bypass in it that would allow forces to overcome the ram if the mechanical linkage was not there to hold it. The power assist is just that , an assist. Kinda like blowing on it with fluid. The boat helm I have has been flawless so far for me. The lack of feedback takes some getting used to, but that has been the only con, if you consider it as such. I kinda like it now, makes driving with one hand easier. Leaves one hand free for beverage support. |

I will add,
I have had my cart to 45 mph , verified by radar (speed limit trailer) and the steering was fine. Still had some pedal left, but was afraid some bolt would fall out and I would crash, so I lifted. I think it'll probably do about 50-55. :) |

Nice on the speed. When I did drive mine. I liked the way the steering was, and mine wasn't even bled right (found that out after)
Also i think my lines are too big for it. |

Re: SAMURAI EZGO BUILD 4x4 linked foreman motor 29.5s
That's where the "helm" is so pricy...it's an orbital valve and a pump. Big tires, wedged in rocks, under load needs power to turn. A cart may not need that, I don't know. But I do know a helm is designed to overcome torque of an outboard in water. What do you think?

Re: SAMURAI EZGO BUILD 4x4 linked foreman motor 29.5s
So far I have not been in a situation where I could not turn the tires.
I would equate it to a regular power steering setup in a 4x4 with big tires. Once it's rollin it steers easy. Sittin still it turns fine , but needs more input force. |
