Angry Trouble after replacing crank seals

I'll see if I can bring everyone up to speed on my project. 1974 HD, D model, trouble with over choking, bad crank seals. I have sense replaced both seals as well as the bearing. Motor all back together, and re-installed. Here is the trouble I have now, cart starts, but it doesn't generate a lot of power. I have is up on jacks, so the wheels spin freely, just no power. I thought maybe the points, or timing. It won't generate enough power to completely engage the front transmission drive. Any ideas would be appreciated. Also were can I get a quality set of points from? Thanks

Any auto parts store can supply a quality set of points. There are 2 sets that will fit. I think both sets are Delco type. One set fits a little tight but will work. I don't know the numbers off hand. I did at one time but I did not write it down and forgot. Just take a set to your parts store. $5.00 or $6.00 will buy a good set (I think). Now your main problem is probably timing (to whip a dead horse again) Since you had to remove the point plate during the repair I think you need to re-time forward as well as reverse. There are several posts on the forum explaining how. Your points are probably good if they arent burned and pitted.

There may be members that have not become familiar with searching for the answer.
I want to believe this.
I have annotated 3 pictures of "how to learn how to search" the forum.
I hope this helps.

It does not require "power" to engage the "front transmission drive" (drive clutch) mounted on the engine crank. With the belt off you should easily be able to push the drive clutch into full "engage" (closed) position using your hand. The drive clutch operates by centrifugal force. Take the belt off, start the engine and rev it up a little... if the clutch won't close fully, there's a problem with it.

The rear transmission drive (driven clutch) is another matter, it does require "power" to open fully. It uses the power transferred by the belt to compress the springs and open... which is what allows the drive clutch to close. It is actually the rear transmission drive (driven clutch) that regulates how much the front transmission drive (drive clutch) can close.

Likely the problem is with the rear transmission drive (driven clutch)... if the bushing in the floating flange is worn-out, the flange will tip/cock/bind and won't open. If the floating flange in the rear transmission drive (driven clutch) can't open, the front transmission drive (drive clutch) cannot close. This may feel like a lack of power because the tipped/cocked/bound-up flange will also put the belt out of alignment and even put a bit of a twist in it... and the belt will sometimes become hotter than he!!.

Hey Kplhdryder, It kinda looks like there is a little more action over here than the other board. I was getting annoyed by the spam over there which I thought was bad in the HD section but got to looking and the more popular sections are even worse so it looks like they are kinda letting the board go. Some of the moderators listed have not been online in several years, not a good sign. Figure this place looks more active so I might as well join in.
