Default How much do your tires weigh?

I have been fighting to get the max speed out of my cart. I chose to go with 25" tires but these tires are not your typical ATV tire. These are DOT approved Streetforce Afterburn tires. They are 25x10x12 and weigh 20lbs each as per their website. I have them on ITP SS112 rims which are very common.

I was wondering if these tires weigh more than an average turf, lawn, or ATV tire that a lot of you guys are using. I know that 25" tires are tough to get moving but wondered if the tire type was actually heavier than average which would also potentially be added to my difficulty in getting higher top speeds.

Just a guess but I imagine that tire/rim weight will effect how quick you can get up to speed, or stopping distance. But not so much your top speed.
The larger diameter should improve top speed, but take longer to get there.

I went with 20" tires so I could improve clearance, raise the speed a bit but not kill the torque. It'll do about 24 mph with just myself in it. And easily does 20+ mph with the wife & dogs too. After the lift & tires, I added the CPP clutch springs to improve torque, ie; better acceleration & hill climbing.

Any chance you can try a set of 22s on it?

I have 23" 489's. The tires alone weigh 14lb's each. don't know what the wheels weigh.
Mike at Mikes motor toys has a good post on rotating mass somewhere on this sight. Search it out.

I agree that the wheel assembly weight can effect acceleration times more than TOP speed. ... however, if they are really heavy I guess it could effect top speed Aluminum rims are a big help

Rotating mass effects all aspecs of performance, accelerating, decellerating ,climbing a hill or ascending it as well as top speed and cornering. Lighter is better here for 9 or 11 hp.

That is a VERY VERY general way to find tire weight due to differenty number of plys...different construction methods...rubber density stuff like that

Thats what I was wondering about. I see a 14lbs and a little over 20lbs. already so I assume my tires are in the ballpark to be considered "normal" for their size(25"). I was just curious if there was a noticable difference in density since these are DOT rated. It doesn't look like they are out of the ordinary in that aspect. Good deal.

Plys and tread design I would assume is what dictate the weight of a tire.
