lost reverse

reverse was working good but went to last drag race and needed to back up to dragster and reverse horn worked but eng did couple slow grunts and that was it;;never got reverse again;;has forward just fine just no reverse;;seemed like couple times i slamed hard on pedel[gas]and it worked..now that doesn't work either;;can someone walk me though troubleshooting this;;need to head out to races in morning and reverse sure makes it much better to get hooked up to dragster when need to pull it;;know nothing about golf carts but i do know and do wiring on race cars and street rods so understand how to use test light just need to know what makes reverse work and what and how to check things on it to fix;;thanks for your help in advance

Im assuming you have a G1 2-stroke. That is usually a bad solenoid, not available at the parts store, maybe available from yamaha, for stupid $...

yes guess that would help;;have a 84 G1 2 stroke;;IF GO ON EBAY would it be called a reverse solenoid?theres 2 round looking things on top of inner fender on pass side by batt.looks to be solenoids;;if thats them then what one is the reverse one?

It's the one that doesn't click when going forward...

They are both the same. You can diagnose by swapping them out. If you switch them and you have reverse but no forward, order 1 solenoid.
