Default Voltage regulator

Is there anything that can make a voltage regulator go bad? New regulator worked fine for a couple of days then it goes bad and is only charging at 11.5 volts. S/G is putting out 18 volts like it should.

Cheap aftermarket voltage regulators can do that...

Did you buy Amazon or OEM?

It was OEM. I understand cheap as being inferior but, I am wondering if anything else happening with the cart that would make it go bad so soon.

Check your ground. High resistance to ground either by wire or the bolt can cause it to go bad as well.

Bad ground can also cause it to "act" bad, but not really "be" bad too.

I'd also check the main ground from the negative battery terminal to the frame.

"Check your ground. High resistance to ground either by wire or the bolt can cause it to go bad as well." Which ground and bolt would that be? I have the black wire with the eye lug going to the neg. battery post.

Oh yeah I just tried a new regulator and it was charging at 15.4 volts. I put the top on the control box and checked again and it was 17.6 volts.

On mine there is a bolt that runs through the center of it, and a ring terminal with the black wire going there, tobground, and to the microswitch next to it. Yours may be a little different but its critical that black wire has a good ground.

But mine is a 93 FE290, not sure what you're working on?
