Default T-Rex's G2 build

Hey guys, well after a job change and a couple of hundred mile move, I have finally started with the build. And as with any build, first there must be an "unbuild". Lol I have started ordering parts and just wanted to get some pictures of my first four days of work. I know I still have a long way to go but I'm taking my first steps. If I'm doing this right, the first pics are of the $50 dollar initial investment.

I'm in the process of cleaning up all the rust and getting the frame ready for paint. Will be ordering the install kit for the Greyhound 420 from VG as soon as the frame is prepped and painted. Have a 6" lift from Steeleng ready to go on as soon as the paint is complete. Will be installing a newly acquired set of 22" A\T tires too.

Would love to get some of the more experienced guy's ideas and advice on the engine mods. I'm wanting something fairly quiet as it will be used in a campground some, but also want it to go "a bit faster than stock". Looking for maybe the 25 to 35 mph range?

Mechanically adept as you seem to be why not start with the DIY VC460 ? It will run 40 mph easily.

G2 - can’t go wrong with that cart, though I’m a bit prejudiced :
Ray is right, VC 460, or with their hardware, a Predator670 V Twin( my preference) another option is Don Plowman’s for all things Yamaha. All of those choices offer plenty of power
Or, I’ll double your money on your “ initial investment “

Well first off thanks Ray, I guess you could say I'm mechanically inclined, I've been an industrial maintenance mechanic since I was 17. Now at age 55 I guess you could say I've learned a thing or two. As for engine choice I purchased the Greyhound from an older gentleman who bought it for a project he never completed. It was brand new in the box for $150. This seemed like a good place to start at the time. Not to mention, but I am a cheap build kind of guy. Let's just say I love Craigslist. What mods to a bone stocker would you recommend. I also have seen where guys have removed the balance shaft, is this a bust or boon? I know I'm gonna order the HD rockers and valve springs when I perform the govenor-ectomy. Also gonna order the 3 circuit carb and the timing advance bracket. Most of my budget will be spent on the drive clutch and the driven clutch, those things are kinda pricey. May opt for the billet flywheel as well.

You for sure need to add a billet connecting rod. That with some HD valve springs, high ratio rocker arms and jetted carb make for good clone based engine. Porting the head ,the autolite 3910X spark plug and a high flow air cleaner are nice additions to this base. AND last but not least a good tach

Also thanks JClark and New Guy, I like the G2 because the body style was just different enough to make more interesting. Also gonna be needing to find some of the plastic parts like the side pillar covers and the seat back trim.

Q
Unless you’re going to rebalance the crank leave the balancer in.
