Re: Yamaha Drive lithium ion conversion
So follow up. We spent the last 10 days in Fort Wilderness campground in Disney World and did a bunch of cruising around. The cart ran perfect all week. I saw a max average speed on flat ground at 25. My wife swears she saw 27. I think she is saying that to keep me for trying to go faster. I want to break the 30 mph mark. Any suggestions? The longest I was willing to run it was down to 26% battery life. And an estimated 15 miles. This thing needs some juice brakes for the front end. The single brake in the transaxle is not enough. I did manage to get the front wheels of the ground once with it. That was fun. They didn’t go very high after all this is a 32” stretch kit installed. Brake upgrade first then maybe a new motor.

Re: Yamaha Drive lithium ion conversion
Please excuse my questions. I am really suffering on how to attach a BMS to the Leaf Modules. On the three terminals I was under the impression that to get the voltage on the two packs in series is to touch the 1 and 2 terminals and then touch terminals 2 and 3. In theory at full charge they should be 4.1 volts or so each.
When I look at your pictures it looks like you have 1 and 2 connected, then the next battery in the series flipped downside up and then 1 and 2 connected on it. How are you pulling the voltage on the 2 to 3 connectors? I am on a 36 volt cart so I have five batteries instead. Any help on this would be much appreciated. This is probably a simple question, but for some reason I have a mental block on dealing with a BMS mostly because I am not sure how you charge from terminals 2 and 3 while having a connection to 1 and 2 also. |

Re: Yamaha Drive lithium ion conversion
Could you please tell me what kind of relays you used with your battery charger. I’m having issues with the chargery charger and i snagged the same charger you have installed. Thanks.

Re: Yamaha Drive lithium ion conversion
Has anyone tried the factory style top plate with the BMS pre wired?

Re: Yamaha Drive lithium ion conversion
All right I found it.
http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...rking-all.html Check the link I posted at the end for the kit I bought. I highly recommend it and it will save you hundreds of dollars compared to piecing it together from Yamaha. |

Re: Yamaha Drive lithium ion conversion
You will have to connect a BMS wire to every center terminal and every bus bar between the two cell Leaf batteries. + 1 to the top most and bottom terminal.
We're wiring up a 14 battery setup 14S2P or is it 2P14S , so we have 2 batteries in parallel and 7 of those pairs in series. This setup has by-2 bus bars on the center terminals and by-4 bus bars to connect ++ to -- of the next pair. The top and bottom are by-2 bus bars. Each bus bar has a small 2Amp wire to the BMS using a #10 screw. Should give us more runtime than the original 36V 6x6V Pb setup in terms of storage and it will charge much faster with the 1500W 48V@25A charger. (as compared to my Deltran 36V@15A on Lead-Acid) |
