Default Yamaha Drive lithium ion conversion

Now that my project is nearing completion and I’ve taken a few trips around the neighborhood in the cart I figured I’d share. I pulled the dead Trojans batteries out of my 2010 Drive and decided to go lithium. I bought the batteries 7each for a total of 14 cells on eBay for $85 each. The charger is the 17amp 1200w charger from evbatterycenter.com. The Battery management system is from Chargery.com and everything else is custom stuff done in my garage. I think it turned out very well and clean. During this modification I also stretched the cart 36 and repainted it. New radio and speakers all around. I haven’t been able to clock the speed but I can tell you it has some awesome pickup and go. It use to run about 25mph I may have picked up a mph or two. It feels faster. I installed a separate 12v battery to run all the other systems on the cart including the BMS. The lithium’s are for the motor and controller only. With my current trips I’m calculating about 25/30 miles per charge. I’ll let you know when I get some real run time on it. I’m going to attempt to upload some pictures. We’ll se how it goes.

Nice. Looks good. I am starting mine this weekend. 97' EZGO TXT converting it to 48 volts. Using two Chevy Volt 48v 47ah batteries.

Looks nice and not too complicated so I might even be able to figure it out. As a novice in lithium are the small wires on the pack for the bms?

The BMS is an active bms but it only moves power from cell to cell at a max of 1.2 amp. So at the max it’s 4.2 volts at 1.2 amps. The wires are plenty big enough for that.

I guess I asked that wrong. I wasn't questioning the size of the wires but their function. I think you have answered that

Can you estimate your total cost of the conversion? About time to replace my Trojans as well.

Looks good. I like the lexan top. Those are some serious bus bars.

Total cost was about $1500 with charger and BMS. The bus bars were cut from a solid copper 2”x 1/4” thick bar. I’m sure they can handle just about any load that could come from these cells. :-). The plexi top was kind of an after thought. I’d like to put some led lights around it to light it up. Show it off a little.

Which model of the Chargery BMS are you running? does it integrate well with your charger system, and are you monitoring each cell?

if you could provide a few more pictures of the BMS / Charger / Battery connections, I'd really appreciate it.

thanks,
Phil
