Default Stupid voltage reducer/fuse block questions?

New to the wiring of these golf carts. I have a 99' EZGO TXT DCS cart that I plan on installing a 36v to 12v-30amp voltage reducer and run it to a Blue Sea 5026 12 fuse fuse block to run some accessories like a horn, stereo, speakers, and underbody neon. I also plan to run some other accessories in the future, so that's need for the 12 position fuse block. Does anyone have a diagram to run from the batteries to the reducer to the fuse block? I know you can't ground to the frame, so where do you hook up the grounds for the accessories or toggles to operate them? I would also like any thoughts or how-to on having a switch to shut down the fuse block when not in use? Any help, especially pictures (what can I say, I'm somewhat electricly retarded) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for the help

I have a seperate 12v battery and a 6 circut fuse box. The fuse box is monted in the right glove box hole. I used a battery cut off switch from Harbor Freight to turn off the power to the fuse box when I'm not using the cart. All the gounds will go back to the fuse box. It has lugs especially for that purpose. The grounds can be daisy chained across all the switches. No experience with the voltage reducer but I'd imagine it works pretty much the same.

Several photos of my wiring and battery cut off switch in my build thread...

From what I've read the ground will go back to the 36v ground.

I have a separate 12 volt deep cell for my stereo and aux. power with plans to add a sub. I keep a solar trickle charger charging it.

The ground from the 36v voltage side of the reducer will go directly back to the 36volt negative battery post. If you have a fuse block you may want to have a ground bar to ground everything back to; then to the 12 ground side of the reducer. Now, That's what I learned from these guru's.

Is the reducer a 3 wire yellow, red, and black? If it is the grounds all go back to the 36 v ground.

Thanks all, I think I am starting to figure it out. I might consider the seperate 12v battery. I am ordering all this stuff in the next week and the seperate battery kinda sounds like a better/easier choice. So, with a sperate 12v battery, you just ground all your accessories back to the ground on the 12v? I am still going to run the fuse block to keep it clean with fuses I can change. A quality voltage reducer will run me about $180, I guess I could get a quality deep cycle battery and a trickle charger for less then that? Any suggestions on the solar powered trickle charger? Thanks again for all the help

If you run the 12v battery, you run the pos and neg from the battery to the fuse block and then just ground everything back to the block. I bought a little $20 battery maintainer form Harbor Freight for mine. Works great and is very small. There are lots pics of my setup in my thread.

Solar trickle charger is a good supplemental solution. The problem with a separate 12v battery system is you have to monitor and maintain it properly. Most 12v batteries are cranking batteries so they are not made for any kind of deep discharge. Designed to just crank an engine and immediately be recharged via the alternator. Most guys who use the 12v system wind up buying one a year due to battery abuse If you do go the 12v battery route get a 12v meter to monitor it's state of charge.
