Default Trailing arms

Has anyone ever had to modify , build new , or change trailing arms to somthing that wasn't there to begin with ,,to be able to mount a big block . if so was it worth the effort . I am trying to convince myself to cut both sides of mine and replace the sides with 2x4rectangle tubing in order to get 2 inches more width so i can put an 18 in my Hundai and move the rear tires back 2 inches to better center them in the wheel well . The engine now hangs up on the left arm as it's not quite wide enough for the engine to sit down in . Trying to put it in without lifting cart maby even lower it an inch or two .
