89 DS Bouncing and Shaking
Cart like jumps (Bounces) when first pressing the gas down. Just replace the belts thought that may fix it but it did not. Curious of you guys thoughts.. It's seems like the clutch may be slipping but not really sure not real familiar with clutches

Re: 89 DS Bouncing and Shaking
For starters, put it in maintenance mode (flip the little yellow spring-loaded cam on the back side of the shifter), pop the seat up and watch the clutch and belt while revving the motor.

Re: 89 DS Bouncing and Shaking
I have done this should have stated that earlier, Seems that it only does it under load motor runs great when in maintenance mode. I get white smoke out the exhaust when its under load also. None when its in maintenance mode. (What should I look for when I do this ?)
I am having carb trouble also but this problem has been going on for a year or so that I have had the cart. Another problem I am trying to fix |

Re: 89 DS Bouncing and Shaking
If you're getting white smoke, that's oil blowing by your piston rings and burning out through the exhaust. And since it's running crappy to-boot, I'd do a compression test.

Re: 89 DS Bouncing and Shaking
Get a compression tester, remove the spark plug and thread in the compression tester hose. Then crank the motor wide open until the needle on the gauge stops rising. Then watch the needle after you stop cranking to make sure the pressure doesn't leak down. It should be around 100 or better IIRC.
Here's a video of a guy doing one on a Briggs motor, same basic idea. |
