Default Should I pull the gov. weights off the cam?

I am getting ready to pull the gov. on my 16hp briggs is it worth pulling the weights off the cam? What does it do if they are left on? Thanks

jadawg, guess it won't hurt to leave them on. Just a little extra weight that's no longer needed. It's a simple matter to grind off the rivets that hold them on and punch them out...

I just finished my rev kit and advance key now I will probably do the governor tonight. Once I have the crank case off is it easy to get the cam out? I have never had one of these motors apart.

It's pretty straight forward. Make sure you align the timing marks before you pull it. Replacing the o-rings is recommended. I cleaned the oil pump and replaced those o-rings while I was in there. Make sure you lube lobes when reinstalling.... That's about it.

Dawg, drill and tap the governor hole for a plug while you have the cover off.
