quick discharge ?
yamaha "drive" had motor replaced due to grinding noise in motor,4.3 motor. now seems to discharge quickly. when i drive it 1 mile the charge gauge drops one eigth of a charge. after going about 2 more miles, it drops an other quarter charge to about one third of a charge used. gauge drop is instant, not gradually. after about 2 more miles gauge drops instantly another one quarter of a charge. all total it now gets about 16 miles to a full charge, used to get 30-35 miles to a full charge. this is a golf cart community with 75 miles of cart paths. cart has new batteries and 4ga. wires.

Re: quick discharge ?
Sounds like you have a bad battery, one that is weaker than the others.

Re: quick discharge ?
You have a "The Drive" with 8, 6 volt batteries? The growling noise was the motor and not the transaxle?

Re: quick discharge ?
Hi Tomcart,
When you say it is a 4.3, do you mean not a stock 3.5 motor? If yes, can you tell us something about performance, top speed, climbing, setup i.e. programmed codes? Have any parts other than the motor been changed from stock, like the controller? Thanks |

Re: quick discharge ?
4.3 hp GE motor, stock controller. Does about 25 mph, 3500 rpm. 10in. wheels & tires. This quick discharge problem, all of a sudden, has really got me baffeled! It slows down some on hills, but it is still better than a 3.5 hp cart!

Re: quick discharge ?
A bigger motor that climbs hills faster has to burn up more amperage faster than stock in order to do that.....

Re: quick discharge ?
That I understand, but the old 4.3 was going 30-35 miles. Now after the new 4.3 was installed,it only goes about 16 miles. Same 4.3 motor as old one.
