New 2006 Club Car Precedent -Easy upgrades?

I've had my new black Precedent Champion Electric-BBI less than a year and we're very satisfied overall. With all the knowlege of the readers of this forum which is new to me, I was wondering what "upgrades/modification" that I might do in order to make a good machine even better.

My machine is almost stock. I did pay about $75 dollars to give it a little speed boast to 19.6 mph, and it has a horn, lights, windsheild, bag cover (no turn signals).

We live close to a golf course and use the cart as our primary mode of transportation back and forth. Therfore, speed is somewhat an issue, but quite frankly the 19.6 mph is a vast improvement over our gas cart.

One thing that I have noticed is that it's a fairly hard ride, and I've reduced the tire air pressure down to about 18 lbs which has helped, but I think it still seems a little stiff. I believe the tires say up to 30 lbs or something like that.

I'm in the process of trying to select floor mats, but haven't decided on anything yet. Recommendations?

I'm really not in a big hurry to put another $1,000 into the cart, but thought you guys might have some suggestions to make it a little better without changing out the motor.

upgrading the cables won't help enough to be worth it.....

you can replace the controller with an alltrax controller that will give your speed a boost to about 25 mph with your stock motor.

If I'm not mistaken when Augusta Resident changed out his controller for an DCX400 IQ with stock wires he only got 20-21 mph but with an improvement in torque. When he put in a PQ IQ motor along with his Alltrax his speed improved to 26.1 mph. When I did just the PQ motor I got 26+ mph, again without adding the Alltrax. A new Alltrax DCX400IQ is around $385 and a PQ IQ motor exchange is $300.

Since I've posted that thread and really used my cart since the upgrade, 26.5 mph is a no brainer. My cart has a fold down rear seat and was just weighed, (getting it inspected for an LSV,) at 1,140 pounds. Pictures of what I've added are in the link in my signature.

Hey Scub you might want to mention the larger tires and wheels you added
make a big difference in speed.
Put the old stockers back on (if you still have them) then GPS it.

You're right GM... I think I mentioned it in the other thread but a VERY valid point about speed. Just the 22" tires gave me 18.9 mph with Speed code 3 and with Code 4 I got 20.3 on average. So once the motor went in with those larger tires I got the 26.5+ speed!

Where does one shop for a "PQ IQ" motor? If I understand, what you do is exchange the original motor for the juiced one. Is this something that you could do yourself if you are not too unhandy, or do you need to take it to a golf cart mechanic?

One last no brainner question..... what pressure carry in your tires? I'm riding pretty hard at 19 lbs, but maybe it's just my imagination.

Yes to the motor thing.
4 wires use double wrenches to keep electrical connectors from spinning.
then 3 larger bolts on the Motor, and they are set in such a way you can't screw it up!

Adding a bit to GM's post but still less then 1 hour from start to finish!


Put Tow/Run switch in Tow position
Locate and remove main negative lead from battery pack
Locate and remove main positive lead from battery pack.
Make sure you write down where the 4 wires go that are currently on your motor. (could take picture to be sure)
Remove 4 wires on your current motor using 2 wrenches to make sure you don't spin contact terminals
Remove 3 bolts going from your motor to your case
Remove 1 bolt from motor hold down bracket, (larger bolt then the other three from case.)
Pull out old motor, being careful of its weight when it will drop, around 50 pounds.
(If old motor is stuck use rubber mallet on end of motor case and hit back of motor TOWARDS axle case to help loosen.)
Clean up inside of axle case and lightly lube shaft
Put new motor on shaft and slide to case
Replace all bolts, do not over torque them. (MAKE SURE motor is flush with case before bolting to case!)
Replace all wires back to original position using 2 wrenches to make sure you don't spin contact terminals.
Replace positive lead back to battery pack
Replace negative lead back to battery pack
Put Tow/Run switch back to run.
Get in your cart, hit the pedal a couple of times testing drive and reverse and your done.

You might want to add, jack up rear of cart and use axle stands to prevent accidental runaway cart.
