very slow cart

I just traded for an older ezgo cart the motor fires up and drives fine the owner before me mixed his gas with way more oil than it should have and seems to be driving very slow in forward, it goes way faster in reverse. this is my first gas powered model any pointers on where to start or what to lok at would be very helpful

I had a buddy said it looked like the drive belt was excessively slipping

If it was ran rich, then I would say the muffler is clogged. You can loosen the bolts and leave a gap between the pipe and muffler, if it runs better like that you can BBQ your muffler on a hot bonfire for about an hour that helps. I had the samebproblem with mine! The drive belts look really loose until you accelerate. The clutches should open and close and grab the belt. Im sure you can find plenty of help here.....I have lol.

Oh FYI the correct mix is 1oz per gallon for normal use.

sounds like a good start there is some giant motorcycle muffler welded in place on it and is quite loud i may go get the correct muffler anyway. I did jack it up and ran it and could see the belt did get tight Thanks for your help

What are you mixing and is there a reason to do this ?

That is the mix ratio for fuel/oil c21tupper. Hugh I think a mc pipe on it is not a good thing, like I said im new to carts as well but Racin161 or Dave box would probably be more help than me! Stock 2 cycle mufflers for these carts are expensive and hard to find! They need the expansion chamber for sure! I think they go in $200 to $300 range new.
You also need to determine to run pre mix or does your cart still have the factory oiler? If the oiler has been removed you need to make sure the hole in the intake has a screw or bolt in it to seal it!

the cost is probably why the jack wad put that muffler on it I hope I can find the correct muffler for it. Headin back to the shop to check to see about the oiler and being sealed on the intake thanks again for your help

just checked ebay for the correct muffler there seems to be a big price change between some its a 85 model any opinions?

I have an 88 and it looks to have the original muffler on it, judging by all the patches and repairs done to it. Its not pretty but it does the job. Sorry dont have much to offer on the subject.
