Precedent Won't Move Forward or Reverse - My Own Fault!
I have an issue I need help with.
I have a 2010 Club Car Precedent 48v electric cart. I was trying to install a digital volt meter by hooking into a positive red wire and a negative black wire that were not connected to anything next to the on/off switch (the solenoid?) under the dash. I had tested these wires with my multimeter before connecting them to the digital volt meter and got a reading 50.9, which is the same reading I received when I tested the #1 and #6 battery neg and pos. while I was hooking up the volt meter the end of my wire cutter touched both wires and sparks flew. I knew it wasn't good. Now the volt meter gets no response and of course the cart will not go now. No response on the key switch on position and no buzz when in reverse. What did I fry?? Solenoid? Wiring Harness? I don't know what to check and where to start. Please don't tell me the controller is zapped!!! AAAGGGHHH. I am still getting 50.9 volts reading from the batteries on the multimeter. |

Check the main fuse. It's in a black Delphi fuse holder near the solenoid. It's probably blown.

Next time, put the cart in TOW and disconnect the pack when doing anything electrical. You might need to remove one or more of the middle batteries to get to the fuses behind the controller cover.

It was fried good, so black inside you can't see the metal link! Note the burn marks on both the plug in tabs on the pic below. I am on the way to the auto part store now to grab one and replace. Crossing fingers this is the only thing that blew. |

Yes - put the cart in TOW prior to doing any electrical work on the cart.
Tech tip - When you are doing this sort of stuff make up one wire at a time. This eliminates the possibility of accidental shorts. |

I thought the cart was in TOW mode when I started messing with the wires then ZAP!
This kinda stuff happens when you get old like me. |
