Default Voltage of Batteries when upgrading to 48v

after seeing everyone on this sight upgraded to 48v, i am now getting the bug also...If i decide to upgrade from 36v to 48v, do i need to add 2-6v batteries or can i just add 1-12v...My current batteries are brand new interstate u2200's so i dont mind adding something as long as i do it soon. Also, Do i need a 48v solenoid or can i somehow rig it to where my solenoid only gets 36v still? And lastly, how many amps of a controller should i upgrade to for a 48v cart. Currently i have a stock controller and motor on my 98 ezgo txt dcs.
oops, 1 more question...I'd like to use just 1 single charger (48v i guess) instead of a 36v and a car charger or something..What is the most common type being used by everyone here?

Thanks

Do yourself a favor and try and get the same batteries you have right now. A single 12 VDC battery will "work" but it's not reccomended. It will cause other problems down the road and it doesn't have the capacity of a deep cyle cart battery. If you have one laying around you could use it for a short time while your working on the 48 volt upgrade.

Some people have great luck using the 36 volt solenoid on 48 volt and other burns them up right off. I have had both happen. If you have the cash to spare go ahead and get a 48 volt unit. It's mainly the activation coil that burns out on 48 volts.

Controller: I always recccomend getting the biggest controller you can afford at the time. You will eventually want more power at some point and you will need it.. (not sayinf "if", I'm saying WHEN. LOL!)

There is not that many controller upgrades for a DCS...check out Alltrax

MOst common charger you will find is a Lester or a Yamaha charger will work. The Club Car chargers will not work for conversions because half the charger is on the cart ( on board computer) Besure your new controller is matched to your speed controller ie; 5k - 0 or 0 - 5k . Good Luck
