Default 23 high torque starter

After the installation of my high rev and cam in my 23 briggs it seems a bit hard to start. the battery is a automotive battery, not a mower battery. in fact today i had to help it a bit on the compression stroke to get it to start.

so what is the correct high torque starter for this motor? any good leads on a place to get this? i was doing some research but several conflisting ideas. also if the high torque is a stock unit on something, what is it?

motor only has about 40-50 hours on it. so i know the starter isn't bad. and it worked fine before the rev and cam install.

thanks for any assistance!

Aaron, Performance V-Twins in NC has 'em, never called to price them though. Probably not cheap. I've seen them on EBay from time to time but don't really know the quality of those. I know I have to "bump" mine from time to time so that's why I've considered the hi torque, but so far I just live with it. Would hate to have to pull start it though.........

Yep, that's a good B&S starter number, 238.00 Tulsa Small Engine Whse.....

I'd pull my old one and count starter teeth before I'd order a new one....

You can also try larger cables, or double them up, and put the ground right to the engine block or starter. They must not have a comp release on that cam or your rocker is way loose on the intake valve.

Has anyone tried 24v on the starter? People run boat trims on 24v all the time.

years ago we changed our willy's jeep over from 6 to 12 volt and used the stock 6v starter. Never had a problem with it , but you wouldn't want to crank it for more than 30 sec or so or it could fry.
