Can you use jumper cable to make wires
Can you use 4 GA jumper cables to make new cables instead of buying cable from a welding supply. Would the insulation be the same or does it matter.

Re: Can you use jumper cable to make wires
You could but they wont be very good. All of the ones I have seen recently have more insulation than copper..... like fake 4 gauge. Its all insulation with very little wire. "If" you bought a good set of cables it would be better but they might cost as much as the 4 gauge welding cable.

Use 4 gauge welding cable. Take your time making them and you will be happy with them. The lugs need to be 4 gauge with a 5/16 hole. If you can't find 5/16 then 3/8 will work but they fit a little loose on the battery terminal stud.

Re: Can you use jumper cable to make wires
I'm kinda new here, but can't you just use 6guage? I mean, I know an auto mechanic who can get 25ft of 6ga wire for only $25. If your only gonna run 36V, then all you need is 8ga because thats what it comes with from factory? Yeah, why buy 4 when you could use 6, or 8?

Re: Can you use jumper cable to make wires
Because there are gains to be had with 4 gauge. Try running a 650 amp alltrax and a hot motor on 6 or 8 and they will probly go up in a puff of smoke.
