Default Buzzer for reverse?

I just put new batteries in my 48v Club Car, 2003 model. I also installed headlights and taillights. Short story, I left the wires to the lights disconnected to the batteries because I wanted to clean the battery cables, again and see if the batteries charged better. When I put the golf cart in reverse, a buzzer came on. It has never done this before, at least 7 years. Is the buzzer normal? If yes, any idea why it started working? Thanks.

Yes a reverse buzzer is normal on most carts. I'm guessing a cable got corroded or dirty over time, thus not giving voltage to the buzzer. And after cleaning it restored the voltage.

Thank you very much. I assumed this to be the case but certainly did not know.

All carts are supposed to have a reverse buzzer. IMO it's an important safety feature. You don't want to think you are in forward and shoot backwards. I've seen it happen. Some think it's ok to disable the buzzer. I put a piece of tape on mine to make it a bit quieter but still loud enough to easily hear it.

It is also a good troubleshooting tool...If a known good and connected backup buzzer doesn't work when you put it in reverse it is an indication that the controller is not powered up..

Mine didnt work when I bought my cart but now that im upgrading from 36 to 48v I purchased a new 48v buzzer as I can see an accident waiting to happen after a few beers in my campground without it.

I just got done adding roof lights and a bigger fuse block to my 99DS. Removed the front cowl and cleaned up all the wiring. Put it back together and no reverse buzzer.
Looked at the wiring diagram and the buzzer has a + & - terminal. Switched the 2 wires and buzzer works.
