Re: Need to pick a lift kit and suspension Upgrade
I have run resistor coil carts on 48v fo ras long as a year.... but, typically they burn up the resistors or V-glide or the F&R .... or some component... The secret is to drive them wot or nothing just never push on the gas for long ... just squirt and spurt....If you want to go this route all you need is 2 more batteries, a 48v solenoid, and some cable. (& a way to charge them)
NOW the best way to do it is to make the complete conversion to solid state speed control.... This is a little more $ but well worth knowing nothing is going to melt.... and you can drive like grandma or Jeff Gordon Several members have done this.... |

Re: Need to pick a lift kit and suspension Upgrade
Thanks for the heads up Scotty.
I am going to get the lift kit and body done first but I may very well go to the 48 volt conversion. I assume I just need to add the speed controller and nothing else? No FR selector or anything? |

You can use a high(er) speed motor but to get the same level of torque your going to need amps...lots of amps. Pulling lots of Amps pull the batts down faster and burn things up quicker. You could have 2 carts that run the same speed, 1 with high voltage/low speed torque motor and the other with high amp/high speed motor and the one with the torque motor will run longer. The drawback is battery space. You have to figure out a combintation and stick with it. 8 12 volt batts with a torque motor is lots of fun. Drawback is run time. Torque motors work real good with high voltage. but if you want run time your limited to space. A beast motor on 48 volts will make lots of torque....but won't go as fast as say a motor designed for a higher rpm. |
