Powerwise 2 Charger Question
Obviously new to the whole golf cart thing. I have an Ezgo TXT 36 volt cart and Ezgo Powerwise 2 charger. I plug the cart up the charger clicks then hums after a a few seconds. The DC amp gauge moves a little but falls to around 0. I tested the voltage at the batteries while it’s charging and it raises from the non charged value of around 3.12 volts to 4.25 with the charger plugged up and the total voltage goes from 36.12 unplugged to 37.25 while charging.
Once again new to this but obviously everything needs to have slightly higher total voltage to charge but with the DC amp gauge reading is it even really charging? |

Re: Powerwise 2 Charger Question
6V batteries that only measure 3V or 4V are most likely boat anchors.
The fact the pack voltage climbs from 36.25V up to 37.12V indicates the PW-II is putting out some amps. Might have a good charger and bad batteries. Does the PW-II stay on after ammeter drops to zero? If so leave it on charge and measure the on-charge voltage for all six batteries and post here. |

Re: Powerwise 2 Charger Question
So after being on the charger for roughly three hours each individual battery reads roughly 5.1 to 6 volts while the charger is plugged in. The total for the pack while plugged in is 39 volts. Is it possible the ammeter is bad since it still reads all the way at 0 and the charger stays on? I know the batteries are all 3 year old Trojans and replacement isn’t far off I just want to ensure everything is working prior to sinking the money for new batteries. And make sure the charger is functioning.

Re: Powerwise 2 Charger Question
The on-charge voltage is climbing, so charger is putting out something, we just don't know how much.
Ammeter could be bad. Try tapping on it while charging. As for checking out the charge, if you have a ammeter that will measure 25A or so, connect it in series with the white wire connected to the battery pack's main positive terminal. The PW-II starts out at about 20A and decreases from there. There are other ways to check it out, but you have to open the charger's case. ----------- As low as those batteries were, it is probably going to take 16 hours or more to charge them, if they will take a charge. The PW-II will charge until the on-charge voltage climbs to 45V +/-1V before shutting off, or it will shut off in 16 hours if 45V has been reach by then, so you may have to start a new charge cycle is it times out. Here's a couple manuals for the PW-II |
