Re: Pulling steering column instead of wheel??
Thanks scottyB. I am more than willing to be patient. I really do not want to buy another wheel until I get the one I really want and just don't want to spend that money just yet.
The cloth is a great idea. Thanks again. |

Re: Pulling steering column instead of wheel??
So is the original question of pulling the column out not the way to go?

Re: Pulling steering column instead of wheel??
Less work to do it like has been suggested. Did those guys that tried to get it it off spray it down with anything? Spray it down, feet on the dash, get your knees under it and start pulling and rocking it with the nut loose to save your teeth. Have someone hit the nut with a hammer while you are pulling, it will come off.

Re: Pulling steering column instead of wheel??
Here is my puller.....2 steel straps top and bottom and 1 verticle each side .... the only welding was 2 nuts for the bolt between the 2 straps on top of the wheel? I usually get these type pullers on there real tight and then smack the bolt with a steel hammer (2-3 pound) Questions?

Re: Pulling steering column instead of wheel??
That it is. Part of the fun was standing there next to that guy as I'm 5'4" - 150lbs. He just looked at me and grinned and said "this thing is really stuck." One of the guys was making sure that we weren't damaging the shaft while all the pulling/tugging & hitting was going on.
I'm going to have to let this sucker soak for a good week and go at it again next weekend. If that doesn't do it, I'm breaking out the dremel tool and cutting wheels.. |

Re: Pulling steering column instead of wheel??
scottyb,
BTW, cracks me up the kind of contraptions that are needed to work on these things. It's not like I would really have any other purpose for a tool like this. |

Re: Pulling steering column instead of wheel??
This is true ..... it is only going to do two things. 1. Pull the steering wheel off and 2. be scrap metal
