Re: Motor temps???
thats pretty normal.
To really know whats too hot look at the motor name plate for the wire temperature rating it will be a letter like "H". |

Re: Motor temps???
Well, yes and no. That is what the insulation is rated for but it's going to end badly if the motor gets that hot. 200 or so on the case is the max.

Re: Motor temps???
The case temp will normally be cooler than the rotor and stator windings, so like Terry is saying keep it well below the wire temp rating on the case.

Re: Motor temps???
After a 10 mile drive at 20-23 mph, my D&D motors were 133* in the front and 140* on the rear motor. 77 outside air temp.
At 100 in August they get quite a bit warmer. |

Re: Motor temps???
I talked with Vic at D&D about this same thing 2 weeks ago after reading a thread on here about adding a temp sensor to a series motor. He said as long as you keep the case temperature surface below 110C (230F),{preferably not above 100C (212F)if you can help it} you will be fine.
From what I've read the highest temperatures are reached AFTER the cart has been sitting after measuring the temp. So I would push it past 100-110C if I plan on driving back to where I need to be, unless you don't mind waiting a while for it to cool back down. |
