Rear leaf spring question
My lifted CC. Precedent has what I guess you would call a helper spring under the main leaf spring in the rear. Twice now the smaller leaf has twisted and jumped off. I had the cart lifted and can't get ahold of builder, but was wondering if there was supposed to be some kind of spring clip that he did not put on that would keep this from happening. My lift is a Allsports

Re: Rear leaf spring question
If the installer did not install heavy duty springs to begin with this could be the problem. Sounds like you are missing the metal band around the helper spring and main leaf spring.

Re: Rear leaf spring question
Measure the width of your spring and go to Home Depot, Lowes or any Hardware.
They sell small square face U-bolts and plate you can install to correct it. Mount them about 4" from the axle so you don't preload the top spring. |

Re: Rear leaf spring question
The springs on my EZGO are all bolted together (all 4 of them, helper included) in the center. Are you missing this bolt?

Re: Rear leaf spring question
If the leaf banding is missing, several wraps of electrical tape and a screw type hose clamp will work.. I did this when I rebuilt the rear springs in my 1996 DS.. Wrap a nice pad of electrical tape around the leaves where the clamp will go.. Open up and wrap a hose clamp around the spring on top of the pad of tape.. Tighten the clamp with a ratchet until it's as tight as you can get it..
You can see the clamp on the forward end of the rear spring in this pic.. |

Re: Rear leaf spring question
Hey guys, I work in a Spring-Shop.Measure the width of your leaf-spring then go to a local spring-shop and ask for a "klincher-klip" probably a KK-6 or 7.It is a tin clip you put on the spring to bind the leafs, very simple and cheap.Put them ahead of the axle, just back from the edge of the shorter leaf and clamp them with a c-clamp while the ears are folded over to lock.1 clip per spring but you can do rear of the axle if you wish.Hope this helps
