Well the trailer shop was a bust. Same hubs as everywhere else. Im sure there are hubs somewhere out there that fit, but i cant find them. I've resorted to my last option ...hope to have the ClubCar spindles welded on by Wed. Made a jig tonight from left over ATV frame (pictured) and made two templates (not pictured) to line up the new spindles perfectly on the TRX hubs once their cut. This way I can tack em in place and take them to a pro for the finish weld. Im going to bevel the spindle joint a lot so they can build it up with weld and get good penetration.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1352603654.687346.jpg

With the time involved and the cost of the welding it would be cheaper I think just to find adapters and use the Honda hubs. And as far as a safety standpoint, what I couldn't get out of my head is...man, I hope this spindle don't decide to take a crap on me now. Just my thoughts.

Believe me bokeasmowl, I would have if I could - and that will always be in the back of my head now. BTW, nice ride!

I like the short wheelbase look of the front wheels tucked under the fender like stock, so when I fit the Honda frame I purposely didn't push the front wheels out forward like most lift kits do. So with the added space from a wheel adapter, it extends the front wheels out just far enough that the tires scrub against the firewall while turning. But it floats my boat so I'm still glad I did it.

On a note of progress... I cut the spindles today with a band-saw, and the ClubCar spindles were welded on from the factory by hand, so I'm not as worried about welding it as I first was. Their now ready to be lined up and tacked on tomorrow and then off to a professional welder on Wed, shouldn't be expensive since I've done all the labor and prep. Taking more pics as we speak.

Cant wait to get this everything cleaned up and painted! I have a feeling that once done, I'm going to miss working on it.

That's not as bad as I thought then since I figured the stock spindles were forged as one piece. Thanks for the cart comment, I recently got rid of that cart. Can't figure out how to change my avatar though. Your cart is coming along great. Don't forget to keep adding pics, we love em.

Wow, Jeremy! That's quite an undertaking. A professional welder should be able to make the axle pieces solid. If they were mine, I would have them fluorescent penetrant inspected for cracks after the welds and grinding. Just for peace of mind.

Looks cool bud

Gonkular, thanks for the encouragement - and for the suggestion. That would be added piece of mind for sure. I will definitely start calling around to see if anyone here can do that. ...BTW, any idea on how much something like that costs?

Got the ClubCar spindles beveled and tacked in place today. There now ready for the final weld tomorrow. I couldn't resist the temptation to slap them on and test fit my 22" Lumber Jacks to see how it's looking. So far so good, all my measurements are spot on. However, I noticed right away the 14" TRX250 shocks aren't holding up the weight as I expected. Rather than move them outward, I think I'll check into a different set of shocks.

Man Im loving that old-school big meaty sidewall leftover from the tiny 8" rim!!! And best of all - operating pressure is a measly 5 psi - soft cushy ride here I come! 😄 BTW, just the tacks were enough to hold the weight of the cart on the spindles without jacks. I slowly let it down and no prob ...Feeling better everyday about having these spindles welded. Hi Jeremy. You can get the stuff yourself from Grainger or Aircraft Spruce. You need one can of Penetrant. one can of Developer, and a can of cleaner (or electrical contact cleaner, brake cleaner, etc) plus the instructions are pretty easy to find on the web.

I think any local engine build shop could steer you to who they use. Plus an engine shop steer might be to someone who uses Magnetic Particle Inspection. MPI is the holy grail of penetrant inspection. I have no idea how much it might costs. I just go to my "tool crib" and check a kit out. HFEC is a better means to inspect, but with a weld involved the metal conductivity differences would probably cause even me to scratch my head and go for the liquid penetrant.

I think Ill stick to the fluorescent penetrant. In any case, thank you Gonkulor, I really appreciate the info — no reason not to try this now. There is that worry in the back of my head that's always going to be there because the original ATV spindle is one-piece cast iron, then the spindle portion is machined down on a metal lathe. Welding to cast takes a lot of prep work and experience in order to keep it from cracking. You've got to preheat the cast, take care not to overheat it while welding, then let it cool at a very slow rate either in a controlled oven, under a welding blanket, or some even bury it in sand. Even after all that there are no guarantees. Because of this they wanted to keep my spindles over night. I find out later today how they turned out. Finger toes and elbows are crossed.

Your suggestion of penetrant inspecting for cracks will go a long way in easing my mind. I think what I will also do in the meantime is continue to look for a GoKart or ATV hub that will fit a TRX spindle - just in case this weld fails in the future.

Stopped on my way to pick up the spindles and bought the cleaner, penetrate and developer at AirGas. Many thanks to Gonkulor for the heads up on that one, never knew that stuff existed.

Spindles look great, no surprises - which is a good thing. Got em cleaned up and sprayed and to the best I can tell no cracks (sry no pics)! Mounting them now, then I plan on putting the nose piece back and pulling the cart forward/backwards a few times to let it settle so I can check the clearances on the fender.
