Default Leaf guys! What is your charging situation?

What kind of chargers are you running to leaf packs? Elcon was recommenced to me by Ian at ZEVA, and it has a Can/bus shut off so I wouldn’t need a contactor but just wonder what other options are out there.

I have the ElCon charger for my 48V pack. It has the programable Can\Bus but frankly, I've never changed it from the initial install.

I'm not quite sure what you mean when you say you would not need a HV relay shutoff. I have the ZEVA BMS and have a HV cutoff relay set up in case the ElCon has a bad day.

Yea, ZEVA suggested running the Elcon charger on the can/bus. And running the low voltage side to the key switch, that way if it get to low the power will be off to the key, turning the controller off. It might be less work to run a single contactor on the pack though.

As for the charger, I’ve heard some people run a cheep $80-$100 charger that’s not programmable and let the BMS handle the shutoff at the High voltage side.

I'm not comfortable with installing a cheap charger. It's just me but the ElCon's algorithms are set up specifically for my batteries.

Sometimes....not always....you get what you pay for.

I've seen where Bob Boyce has stated that interrupting the kysw circuit when moving will corrupt the controller software. Pardon me if it wasn't Bob.

That sucks, but if the power is cut to a contactor, won’t that this shut off the power to the key switch too?

Any one have any specific recommendations for 36V chargers available on Amazon?
