Default Please help with 83 2 stroke S/G HOT!!!

Hello everyone,
I just got my first cart ever and need some help.
My dad bought it from an online auction that said needed a stater/generater.
Well he tried to fire it up with the old one on still and the f2 cable got really hot and smoke rolled out of the S/G.(never rolled over)
Took it off, put a new one on, and this one is doing the same thing, the f2 cable gets really hot but he unhooked the battry before the new S/G smoked.
So now he's had enough, and ended up selling it to me.
I looked at it tonight and here's what i found so far.
The soliniod seems to work, when i push the gas pedal i get 12 v out the other big post and i hear it clicking. Everything is fine until i hold down on the pedal to try and get the S/G to roll over. Then the f2 cable gets really hot and the S/G has never rolled over yet so far. Like i said i am getting a good 12v out of the f2 cable with the pedal pressed down and it unhooked from the S/G as not to burn it up, or get the cable hot (it does'nt get hot with it unhooked).
I'm very sorry for the LONG post but i am trying to be as descriptive as i can.
Thanks for taking the time to read (if you made it this far)...

I would tend to think some one has fubar'ed the wiring for it to act like that. Unless your engine is locked up. I don't have any diagrams for that year but here's one for a later 2 stroke cart, the s/g should be hooked up the same way.

Thank you so much for the diagram, I will check it all out tonight and let you know. FYI, We did take the belt of the drive and also rolled the motor over by hand to make sure it was'nt froze.
Having 12v at the f2 cable when the pedal is pressed keeps leading me to think somthings shorting out in the S/G, but i do need to make sure there all hooked up properly. They were labled from the last person, but who knows...

Well found the problem.
Somebody hooked the f1 cable to the frame ground tab, instead of the
f/r switch, shorting out whenever the pedal was pressed.
This cable must have been switched to an odd ball looking (BLACK) cable
at some point in time.
Hooked it up, rolled over and went for a ride around the block!!!!!
Thanks for the wire diagram, helped us not to look like a fool at a repair place.
Now we need to replace the front wheel bearings (dry & loud) and find a air filter that is MIA and she'll be ready for another 20 years..
Great site guys
