Default G1 clutch disassembly

My stock clutch on a 84 G1 is not engaging smoothly. The drive cltch seems to be the problem. I would like to take it apart and see if the wieghts are free and such. But I cannot get past the lock/keeper type washer behind the shaft bolt head. Does anyone have a step by step way of getting the stock drive clutch apart?

The best way is to remove the gas tank (2-12mm head nuts under the 2 straps). Use a chisle to bend the tab away from the bolt. Take the bolt out (counterclockwise and an impact is best). The outer sheave (it holds the 4 weights) will slide off. Then there will be a circlip and a special cam washer. The floating flange will now slide off. May only need to grease the bushings on the floating flange to make it work smooth again. Good luck Dave

You will need a clutch puller. There is a sticky titled "tool loan" in which you can have someone lend you one for the price of shipping. I took my whole engine to a yamaha mech and he popped mine out for me

Don't take this the wrong way Newbylee, but you don't need a puller to get th moving parts of the clutch off G1's thru G14's.

oops,It's been acouple weeks since I had mine apart.I guess it was the fixed sheave I needed pulled to get at my crank seal. Sorry about that.
When I did put mine back together I installed a rubber spacer behind the weights and it engages alot smoother now
