Runs great for a minute
I have a 96' FE 290. Fires up and runs great for a minute or so when cold. Then once its gets warm it starts sputtering and dies out. Then won't restart. And backfires through the intake. Never loses spark.
New:Carb Coil Fuel pump I have unhooked the Rev Limiter. 145 Compression Valve lash at .05 ANY IDEAS? |

Re: Runs great for a minute
When it dies pull the fuel bowl off and see if there is fuel in it?
It maybe the needle valve is part plugged and not allowing enough fuel to run. but when it sits the bowl will fill up and then run till its empty. The passage to the needle valve is very very small. I had the same problem with a new carb. If the NEW carb is a CHINA made, pull it apart and clean it. |

Fuel bowl is full. totally disassembled new carb and cleaned and inspected. Put old carb back on. Same issue. Runs great for a minute or 2. Then spits and sputters and dies.

Have you pulled plug after it dies? What does it look like?
If you take a picture of it and post it there would be a few around here that could probably tell you your tire pressure by seeing plug. |

Re: Runs great for a minute
I know you said fuel bowl is full and new pump but maybe there is a restriction in the tank, fuel lines or filter.
I don't have knowledge on gas tanks for carts, just throwing it out there. Seems like it is running out of fuel in 2 minutes... Maybe the float is still sticking closed even after you cleaned it. Another option is after it heats up the coil may be failing due to heat. |

Have you tried starting fluid when it dies? After it dies does the engine turn over freely? Your sure it maintains spark? |

Re: Runs great for a minute
Spark plug is sooty when it starts to cut out and die.
All new clear fuel line. In line spark tester, still sparks even when its dying. I had this issue a couple weeks ago and replaced the coil, But then it would lose spark after it got warm. Now it still sparks. |

Re: Runs great for a minute
Ok. here is something new. It just spit and sputtered and died. I put in line spark tester on and it fired right back up. I took it out and it wouldn't run. Put it back in now it is sitting there running. Why is adding the tester making it run? Very confused.
