'87 engine removal
Recently picked up an '87 EzGo 2 stroke. Bought the parts to rebuild the top end. Been looking for videos on how to remove the engine from the cart. It would just be helpful seeing someone else doing it. Everything I find in my searches are different setups. If you have a link that would be much appreciated.

Re: '87 engine removal
Remove battery.
Remove the muffler. Remove the drive belt from the secondary clutch, but leave it on the primary clutch. Remove the starter. You might be able to leave the wires attached. Remove the carburetor. 10 MM wrench. Remove the bracket that holds the throttle cable. Remove the ground cable from the engine. There are four bolts on each side of the engine. Two on each side need to be removed. The other two need to be loosened. Grab the drive belt, and use it to lift the rear of the engine while you lift the front side. Done. |

Re: '87 engine removal
Thank you cart around. Ok I got all those steps figured out. Only part left is getting the drive belt all the way off the driven clutch. I read on another post where you said that the belt should fit between the plastic dust shield and the frame. Well mine does not. the clearance is only about half of the thickness of the belt. Any suggestions? I was afraid to pull that plastic dust shield off, didn't know what it might let loose.

Re: '87 engine removal
It's just a dust cover with three small screws. Mine exploded years ago.
You should be able to twist the belt so the flat side squeezes through. |

Ok got the engine out. Even with that dust cover removed very difficult to get drive belt between driven clutch and frame cross bar.
When I pulled the engine out I found a brass bushing on the ground. No idea where it came from. |

Download the manual from the forum. It's not a video but the next best thing. It has very detailed step by step directions on how to remove and reinstall. It even has a list of every tool needed for the task.
Not sure about the brass piece. I didn't see anything like that when I pulled mine last weekend... |

Re: '87 engine removal
I don't recognize it. Did your cart have oil injection?
I have been thinking about your belt difficulty. Check your cradle mounts to make sure it hasn't shifted towards the rear end. Maybe that's where the bushing is from. |

Re: '87 engine removal
Don't even debate on it, just throw the oil injection away. If the lower diaphragm in the fuel pump ever rips, you will be pumping straight gas onto the crankshaft bearings.
My cart never had oil injection, so I don't know if that bushing is from the pump area, or not. |
