Default Custom Trailer Hitch

I use my cart extensively in the woods, on hills, and need to pull a fairly heavy trailer to get fallen timber and other materials in/out. I have a rear seat but the flimsy hitches they sell that go under the footrest are very light duty. They make some that bolt to the back frame but you cant use them with a rear seat and they only bolt on to one bar of the frame which seams like a pivot point that would twist the frame under heavy loads. Those also hang low due to the bumper hanging lower than the frame. I needed something that I could use with the seat/seat bed and heavy duty enough to support a tongue weight of 200lbs or more in some cases.

I fab'ed up this piece that will bolt not only to the back frame section, but also the mid frame section above the axle. I then cut off the foot rest of the rear seat and picked up a hitch step that I can use when people are on the back and not using the hitch. I then notched the bumper and fit everything tight to the frame. The hitch is very stout and supports the weight very well.

I used 2" trailer stock for the hitch tube and 2x3 rec tube for the upright to the mid frame section. I used 2x2 angle for the mid frame connection and 1.5x1.5 angle for the rear frame connection. If I had to do it over again I would probably use aluminum stock but I don't have an argon bottle to weld alum at the house. The piece weighs about 30lbs, so not bad.

Just throwing this out there incase someone wanted to do something similar.

Nice job, but looks pretty HEAVY DUTY for a golf cart.
