Default 8 Volt batteries in a 36 volt Club Car

I have a early 90's Club Car and have a friend just changed out his 8 volt batteries due to one being bad. Can I use the 5 good ones in the old style of club car? If a fully charged 36 volt pack is 38.2 volts and 5 - 8 volts around 42 volts would that 4 volts be enough to damage anything(nothing digital on the cart). If a 36 volt charger will bring a set of batteries up to 38 volts will it not keep going and bring the 8 volt batteries up to 42 volts?

It should run ......okay...... But I think charging is going to be a problem... I foresee the pack not getting fully charged and dying off slowly....

Programable multi voltage chargers are available but am sure price would be more than you would like to spend over replacing your existing 6 volt batterys with new ones and using your existing charger?
