Default Vc 460

Tomorrow the plan is to pull out my may of 2014 VC 460 of the G14 and put all the parts I have been amassing in it. Stay tuned. My first task will be how the NR racing shaft rockers line up. Along with that check out how the aussie speed valve cover works out with the stud holding it down in place of the bolt on the present valve cover. Then comes tearing the head down and putting in the comp cams valve springs.I may also look at fitment of the raceseng flywheel and coil bracket before opening the crankcase for the cam and billet rod replacement.

I can tell you from experience you need to get a set of cut to fit push rods. You may need to shim the rocker arm base. Do your homework on rocker arm geometry -- roller rockers are a little different. You'll need to install the new cam before you set up your rocker arm assembly.

My head is cut .075 so it will be interesting to see where I am at. But again as you say it may require different push rods.

The New 460 only has a 10 to compression ratio. Uses a stock head with a flat top piston instead of a shaved head and a dished piston. I still haven't set mine up yet. I want to use studs for the head bolt as this is a supercharged engine. I'm saving up for the kit that NR has, pretty pricey. I've been hunting for individual parts. I have found the head studs on Summit Racing. Now I have to hunt down the side studs and see if I can put a kit together any cheaper.

I have seen that some of the mini bikers and karters running on alcohol perhaps spiked with a little nitro were using studs instead of bolts along with a billet front cover. But in my case even 6500 rpms would be 50 + mph. Along with that both my carts are rpm limited and not HP limited.

Removed the S/G and exhaust system. I found the muffler to header joint had cracked the braze. This time I welded it. Here is a pic of my simple but quiet exhaust system. Also got all the wiring unhooked and oil drained.Carb linkage and fuel pump vacuum line also off.

Got the engine out and sitting on my breakfast bar. Found the passengers side front motor mount was broken. First time this engine was out of my cart since october 2014 when I installed it. 170 hours + later here we are.

Short block is back together.I had a terrible time getting the oil control ring set into the engine. Could not get the ring compressor to do it could not get big clamps to do it. NEVER had trouble like this and I have put new rings into all sorts of engines. Checked on line and took it apart to find what I did wrong countless times. Finally as a last resort removed the top compression ring and put the large hose clamp on the oil control set and second compression ring and got the welcomed thump. Push the piston back up and installed and compressed the top ring.

For you picture guys here is the shiny piston short block along with pics of the old piston rod combo along with the asian camshaft. Both show no real wear or any sort of gauling after the 170 + hours of Ray driving. Thanks again Aaron. P.S. Your turn Sho
