i have a 92 Marathon 4 stroke getting only 1 spark on the primary coil plug. the secondary gets nothing. after the 1 spark it stops and will not spark again unless i let the cart sit for a bit then repeats. any suggestions?

That sounds like a bad ignitor, but these carts are ground sensitive, and with that age, I would run a dedicated ground jumper to the steel plate that the solenoid mounts to, and to the small ground post on the solenoid. Remove and sand to clean metal each of the ground wires at the battery post, frame, starter/generator, and engine so you know you have good grounds throughout. The plate the solenoid mounts to is bolted to a painted steel tray, that is then bolted to the painted frame. With corrosion between each of those mounting locations, you can easily lose ground connection. A direct jumper bypasses all that.

cleaned the grounds tested them and all looks to be ok. also ran ground directly to the mount for the coil no change. is there a way to test the ignitor?

Other than installing it on a running cart there is no way to test it.
I do see that amazon has the red hawk one in stock for under $100 (Red Hawk ENG-116 Ignitor ) . I have never used one but have suggested them to others. They told me they worked.
