Default Finding the right DMV office in CA…

So I went to my local DMV office in Lompoc, CA and asked about making my golf cart street legal. Spoke with one lady who told me that it could be done and I should bring it in to get verified and inspected. I told her it didn’t have a vin and only had a serial number. She still said it shouldn’t be a problem.

I bring the golf cart in 2 days later and have a different guy tell me there was no way their office would sign off on registering it because it didn’t have the federal motor vehicle safety standard (FMVSS) sticker. He said he also formerly worked at the DMV in Paso Robles, CA and that office would not accept them either.

I tried to kill him with kindness and relayed how another employee in their office told me it was possible 2 days prior. He was nice about it and said certain offices were more lenient and would allow golf carts to be converted, registered and plated. He hinted at the San Luis Obispo, CA DMV being one of them.

I am not giving up. I am willing to make the drive to a “more lenient” DMV that will allow me to register my cart. I just don’t want to drive all the way to San Luis Obispo on the “chance” that they will do it. That’s a lot of money in fuel and wasted time. I am throwing this out there to hopefully find someone who has been successful in getting their cart plated in my surrounding area.

My cart:
2007 Yamaha G29
Navitas 4kw AC motor with 600amp controller
Big Battery Husky 103ah LifePo4 battery
Red Havoc Street Body kit.
GTW Mach 3 rear seat kit.
Double take black extended roof
12” HD wheels with street tires.

Did you get anywhere with this? Looking to get my 1988 G2 street-legal. I’m sure it’s going to be a major endeavor, but I’m committed to find a way to get a plate for the old cart. I’m in Sacramento area and will let you know if I make any progress.
