Default Fire Danger

The batteries in my 2006 TXT are 10+ years old and need to be replaced.

If I go with Lithium is there a concern with charging and fires? The cart is in a garage attached to the house and I hear news stories about e-bikes starting fires.

The risk is low when you buy an engineered brand name battery.

The risks are no different then buying a Tesla and charging it in your garage. Low but not 0 especially when you buy a pre engineered and assembled battery from a reputable seller as mentioned above.

To minimize the risks further you should avoid charging when you are not around to catch it as there will be smoke and smells before there is fire.

Risk is low if you have a proper BMS that is configured correctly for your batteries and a proper charger. Still, I never charge when I'm either away or asleep! I use lots of lithium batteries and I take care to never abuse them. Do not cut corners when buying a lithium battery for your cart.

There's a risk of Flooded Lead Acid (regular cart batteries) exploding during a charge.....but those risk are relatively low and the explosion isn't like a small fireworks type bomb....but damage can be done.

I've installed my lithium in 2016 and they have been a workhorse ever since. I charge mine when I'm home....never overnight....never when I'm away.

The cheap ebikes tend to be noname LION cells VS Most cart batteries being LIFePo4 cells.

If you wear a covid mask while driving alone on back roads then maybe you should stick with lead acid batteries, turn the News/Media off & live a little.

The guys just asking a legitimate question. He’s obviously not all that familiar with lithium batteries. At one point in time you knew little to nothing about them.

There is more then 1 lithium type barrery
Us a quality based drop in battery with matched bms and charge and chance of fire is less then what I have seem with ill maintained lead acid batteries.

I have seen and experienced la battery explosions first hand due to dry cells, shorted cels but never from a lithium battery
Do your research and do your homework work. You have several months till spring to make your then educated choice.
I went with valtere battery charger and bms.
There website had plenty of articles on different LiPo types and risk if any from them.
Lithium battery types and chemistry has evolved in last few years to make safer reliable batteries.
Good luck.

Appreciate all the replies. I have the XTC500 from ScottyB as my controller so thinking might as well up the voltage now as I should be able to put any limits on battery draw I might think I need with the stock PDS 36V motor.
