Default Curtis controller

HI,

Here is the controller from the salvage cart.

Do you think it is salvageable?

I can't find anything about it??

If you know a link please let me know.

Randy

That is a Chinese version of a Curtis 1234SE AC drive controller. You can find one listed on Ebay. Just plug this into the search there: Electric Golf Cart AC Controller 48-80V 1234SER-6422 350A for Curtis

I have seen some pretty bad looking stuff work, but I would give it a near 0 chance.

I have looked at your other posts, and if I could make a suggestion, you might keep the entire repair on one thread. I believe it would be easier to follow and assist.

If you have not pulled the motor yet, I would see if you can get it off. I have worked on some salt water flood carts, and the motor will be a solid brick of salt and corrosion. You might want to take a look.

Post a picture of your cart as well. That might help with some identifying some parts.

Any cart can be repaired, so hang in there, but the cost of literally everything that needs replaced on a salt water flooded cart will quickly exceed the price of a running unit.

Based on the corrosion near by, this thing was submerged. No way it survived.
Sleepless is correct, that's a Chinese made Curtis part, assuming it doesn't have unique software (called VCL) you could replace it with another Curtis controller from AliExpress or eBay

Hi,
Thank you for your help. I'll keep all the new info on this thread.

Yea, I it is a gamble on the salvage:)

I did take the motor off and it turns very easily and there ws no water in the tranny/motor housing.

If the cart was not so cute I would probably not have bothered.

It is a 72 volt , 170 amp unit. I was looking at the conversion units that have a lot of what i would need.

Thanks again for the help and advice.....

That's a nice looking cart. What are those things on top of the roof?

It's an AC motor, beyond spinning it by hand and trying to feel if its seized or bearing messed up, you would need a controller or VFD to actually drive it and see what's up.
Doesn't look like it was used as a boat anchor, so you might be alright.

I understand why you would want to fix it. Very nice looking cart. I have worked on and owned several similar. They do have some quality issues, but overall very hard to beat for the price.

It is a huge benefit if the motor is good. It is possible that it could be sealed well enough to prevent the salt water from getting into it. It is an easy process to take that motor apart, so I would recommend gently sliding it apart and inspect it. There are no brushes to deal with, so no worries there.

A visual inspection, checking resistance between phases, and verifying that you have no shorts to the motor case from the motor leads, (U,V,W), would be about all you can do on a bench. I believe in my stash I have a motor like yours, and I can see what the resistance values are if you would like for comparison.

I can test your motor, but if it is clean inside, it is probably good.

I would advise caution in two ways. One is physical, in that 72 volts DC has the ability to be deadly. The second would be the cost of repair.. Be very realistic in what this will cost in time and components. I would not start ordering parts until I had a complete list of items you will need.

Take a close look at the all the wiring and connectors. The wire and connections will dissolve from the salt.

Thanks to sleepless and others for all the support!! and the caution about 72 volts....

Yes I would love to know the resistance values for the motor.

I will slide it apart and check it out.....

If I can get 6 twelve volt batteries, is there a way I bench test the motor and "curtis" controller.

thx
Randy

ps.......as far as what is on the top??? I'll look. I think it is just the shape of the top?
