![]() I have a golf cart we use around the neighborhood and wanted to ride legal so I followed the Florida DHSMV guide to converted carts to LSV. Got it weighed and just needed insurance to get it registered. I’m in South Florida (Palm Beach County) and after getting the run around and not getting anywhere with other companies, I called my insurance company, Geico, for the 3rd time and finally got someone that could help. Everyone else said oh we don’t insure them. Long story short, I was transferred to Geico’s Specialty Insurance Division and he said they use American Modern to insure golf carts/ LSV’s. He asked me about my cart, put me on hold for a few minutes and came back with my policy. I now have a policy on my Low Speed Vehicle (2008 EZGO TXT golf cart) for $75.00 a year. Here’s their info…
Department Phone Number: 855-836-9121. Monday-Friday 9 am- 7 pm Sales. Next stop DMV… hope this helps with someone else with insurance questions. |

![]() did you fill out all the forms, get it inspected and get issued a VIN#?
If not then you didn't get LSV insurance , you got liability insurance. |

![]() Yes I went to the DHSMV website for golf carts and LSV and they tell you what to fill out. I also called both Broward and Palm Beach County DMV office for more info. Both have a special unit for titles that were very knowledgeable about converting carts to LSV. They also sent me the forms. I’m going in Tuesday or Wednesday to submit them. The lady told me I submit the forms, pay $40, and they call me back in a week to get the registration, VIN #, and plate.
As for my insurance, I just doubled checked and they did write me for LSV which includes PIP, Property damage and liability. I’m sorry I don’t know how to post a screen shot. My agent told me once I have a VIN and it’s registered, I have to immediately call them back with the VIN so they can update the policy with it. Right now the policy is written with the carts serial number. I’ll update after the adventure to the DMV. |

![]() I did mine in tampa, I had all my forms, and weight slip, and they inspected it, and they processed everything. I paid a few extra bucks to get the title on the spot, left there, went to the insurance company (statefarm) and was done in one day.

![]() Yes we do get assigned a VIN from the DMV. Although Geico used my carts serial number to at least get me proof of insurance, I still have to provide them with the VIN from the DMV once one is assigned. Funny thing is when I talked to the people in my county, Palm Beach, I would have to bring the cart and paperwork. In Broward County, closer to me because I’m in southern PBC, I just bring in the paperwork they sent me. Included in the paperwork was a memo stating they no longer inspect the carts. Let’s see how that all goes in a few days.

![]() Update, Broward County would not process my paperwork because I live in Palm Beach, but the guy was nice enough to review the paperwork with me and tell me my documents were in order, but I needed pictures of the cart since they no longer inspect them at the regional offices. So I brought pictures and my paperwork to the Palm Beach County regional office, handed it over and paid my $40. I was told they will review the paperwork and contact me when I can pick up my license plate and registration. She said it could take 2 weeks. To be continued…

![]() Picked up my packet from the Regional Office. Got 2 envelopes. One was sealed with my application and the other had a sticker with my new VIN and a paper showing how to put it on the cart. Was told to take the sealed envelope containing my approved application to the tax collectors motor vehicle office to get my tag and title. I then called my insurance company to give them the VIN and update the policy. I was told by the Regional Office that the year of the cart will now reflect the year the cart was converted to a LSV. So my registration now shows a 2025 LSV. When the insurance was updated with this info, my
Premium went from $75 to $115. Thanks State of Florida. Now that I have my updated insurance ID cards, I’ll be going to my local DMV for my title and license plate. |

![]() that took awhile for you to get that done . When I took mine to tampa for the inspection. I got my title and my sticker in the same day (I had my own plate that I brought with me). From there went to the insurance company and was done in the same day.
Yes, The year changed when it was titled to an LSV. |

![]() Yes it did. The regional office was backlogged and took 2 weeks to process my paperwork. But after I got the paperwork it was entirely my fault. We have to make appointments in Palm Beach County for DMV. The regional office was walk in. Once I actually booked my appointment at the local DMV, I was in and out with my new license plate (wish I had an old one like you did $$). Anyways I’m good to go. VIN sticker and new plate on cart, riding legal. All said and done, it wasn’t bad at all. Definitely went into it thinking I would have trouble finding insurance and had no clue how to do the paperwork for the cart.
