Default 2008 EZ GO hesitation

Happy New Year!!!
I have been working through a few issues and noticed last night after the cart has sat for over a week that it didn't want to start and after starting when you press the throttle you have a 3 second hesitation before it moves. This is what I have checked/completed.
1. Compression on both cylinders is 179.
2. Set valve lash at .004.
3. Carb was leaking so I replaced with an OEM I purchased off of Ebay and all gaskets. I did notice the kit came with an additional thin black plastic spacer which mine didn't have so I only used the thicker one.
4. Checked the timing belt and also backed the tensioner bolt out and retightened.
5. Drive belt seems to be brand new.
6. Changed both plugs.

Anything else I could check or adjust?

Additional info:
After completing all of the above top end speed and performance is good but no power off the line or going up small hills or even a small curb. Both carbs don't seem to have any adjustments as other threads have said to start with 1 and 1/4 turns out but this tiny carb has nothing on it to adjust.

One other dumb question, could loosening the timing belt tensioner and rotating and retightening cause this issue? My dumb *** watched a video on this and did it because it said it was part of the maintenance.

That would not cause your issue. These belts do stretch over time so you did your engine good when you adjusted it.

Nothing to adjust on these carburetors. Don't worry about the adjustment screw on top. Its the idle screw and these engines don't idle. That idle screw with the plastic cover also snaps off real easy :)

No power going up hills could be your driven clutch worn out. If not worn too bad they can be rebuilt.

Trig123,
Yes it was running fine and had plenty of power. I was reading through this forum and others and found someone who had a similar issue. So I went back to the beginning. I went back through the valve adjustment and set to .007 just to verify and the engine wouldn't run and back fired. So I set the valves again to .005 and could get up a small embankment. I am going to back it down to .004 after work and retest. I am guessing I misread my feeler gauge when I set them the first time. I will let you know what I find out. And yes that idle adjustment snapped off on my original carb which is why I bought a new one. I am going to clean and rebuild and put it in a box since it doesn't use it.

Trig123,
As I stated previously and wanting to give a resolution for my issue. It ended up being the valve adjustment. I backed it down to .004 and triple checked and it is back to normal. I still can't figure out how I made that mistake but I did. Thanks for the help.

Glad you got it going.
Your cart should have the MCI engine. They only used those from 2004-2008.

I have a 1999 ezgo that I installed a 350 cc MCI engine in last year. It runs great and is fast like you wouldn't believe. I rebuilt everything on it.

If it sits for a few weeks it is harder to start which is normal for all these carts. If the temperature is above 60 degrees I never use the choke as it will gas foul the spark plugs. Go light on the choke when trying to start after sitting for longer periods.

Good luck. Tom
