mine started out white. I used a good quality spray paint that had a new style spray tip which made it go on much smoother.

No I just taped everything off that I didn't want painted and lightly sanded the painted area with 800 grit paper

Cammee
Let's get a little more info from you here. What kind of cart is it, has it been painted before, what color do you want it and what color is it currently, do you intend to do any bodywork on scratches? If we can get those we could probably steer you in the right direction.

The only reason I asked the colors is because with spray cans if it is green now it will be a darker blue when you paint it and if it is white it will be a lighter blue when you paint it so take that into account. If you are going to paint it with spray cans start by scuffing it up with red scotchbrite then wax and grease remover and make sure you wipe the wax and grease till it dries. Now you need to apply adhesion promoter, even if you go with the Krylon fusion paint for plastic I personally would still use the adhesion promoter. After the adhesion you can apply the color but make sure you are patient when letting each coat dry, keep applying coats until you achieve the desired color. And yes you can achieve a decent paint job with spray cans, a little trick is to wet down the floor where you are painting because it helps control the dust.
