Getting rid of the choke set up along with cleaning up the throat of the carb makes for BIG gains BUT as Shepard pointed out I get away with because of the high starting rpms produced by the S/G.

I need to look into that on the carb.
The choke really isn’t a bad *** choke anyhow as it is has a good part missing from the blade. I think my 420 starts better with the choke off vs on.

This is one I've done and screwed it up by removing too much material off of the bottom of the bore. I had a drip drip drip of gasoline so I scrapped it after I salvaged all the parts

I use the VC mikuni intake manifold as my air cleaner adapter. So I merely put the 2 together and did the old magic marker trick to see what material had to be removed. It took maybe 3 tries until it looked perfectly matched. Cleaned up the carbide cutter lines and it was good to go. Very noticeable power increase.
