Restoring and re-manufacturing a vintage Pargo Cart Emblem
Because I have access to casting equipment Im going to try and make some new metal Pargo emblems. I thought I would outline how its done just in case anyone is interested.
So to start off this thread will take several weeks. Im waiting on delivers of a 2nd emblem to balance my casting mold. More on that later. Since Ill be putting the emblem into a vulcanize at 420*F and 2000 psi I need to fill the pits with something strong. Im using regular JB Weld. It holds up pretty well to the heat and pressure and it can easily be sanded and shaped. This is the the emblem with most of the pits filled. Ill post more when I have the other emblem ready.  |

Its called MPK. Basically a form of white metal like Zinc.
Just found the ultra rare rear Columbia Charlotte NC emblem so Ill try and cast that one also. Its longer and will be tricky but Ill do my best. |

Have you ever cast brass? Lost wax casting it used to be called. Polished up, it takes chrome plating like nothing else. I'll be following this project!

I sold my wax injector a few years ago so doing a lost wax casting would be a huge hassle. The white metal will be fine for an emblem. It can still be chromed but Ill more then likely just go with Alclad or something like that. All the chrome shops around here want your 1st born to do a small job.

Not me but I am planning on getting a 3D printer around the 1st of the year.
On a side note does anyone have a scan of any Pargo accessories, or sales brochures. Or any add on accessories for carts from the 1960's. Ive Googled it and cant find much of anything. And I really don't want to drop $20 on scans of an original. Thanks. |
