Here's what I'm doing so far. I'm going to send in my old crank and see if I can get the old KF82 running again. If I can, I may then sell one of my carts (probably my '90, the one that's broke down now) and then put the money into a motor upgrade for the '87. Sent the crank off to J&M today, so we'll see what happens.

Well on great thing happened this evening. I was sitting in the garage staring at my broken-down cart and decided I would pop the bolt out of the driven clutch to see if the clutch would slide off the input shaft...and it did! It looks like the previous owner slathered on some Never Seize last time he had it off. That was a battle I did not want to have to fight like I did with my '87 (had to cut/chisel it off, destroying it in the process).

Someone besides me actually uses anti-seize compound? Unbelievable!

Three things I always use when building a cart:
1. Anti-seize compound on anything I want to come off easily
2. Spray grease on anything I don't want to rust
3. Thread (blue) on any bolt I don't want to come off

Those 3 plus teflon spray on moving parts whenever the comet 780 is apart. Got that from the comet rebuilding procedure for sled applications as is used in Suzi.

One thing.....definitely spend the extra $240 on the Comet 780 clutch!!! It will save you tons of time and effort, and....it will perform flawlessly. Perfect clutch for what you want to do. Money well spent.

I'm thinking like this:
HF420 $370
VC Comet 780 $240
VC Mount $180
VC Starter/Gen bracket $110
VC Pulley $80
VC Drive Belt $40
VC V Belt $18

Total $1037

That will give you an almost bolt in project. The little stuff like throttle cable, nuts and bolts, misc things will be up to you. Vegas Carts stuff is very well made.

You "could" make the mount yourself and save some bucks, but everything else you'll probably want to buy.

My 2 cents.
If I wanted to upgrade the driven clutch as well is this the one? I assume it bolts right onto the keyway input shaft on the transaxle on my 1990 Club Car? The description doesn't say anything about it being directional so I assume it isn't:

https://vegascarts.com/collections/c...or-1-3-16-belt

Also, for my other cart, is this driven clutch able to be used with a stock Club Car drive clutch and belt from the Late 1980s/1990s/2000s? My stock driven clutch rattles on decel and I may just rather replace it if this one is a workable and worthwhile upgrade.

Just remember the VC unit takes a 1 and 3/16 belt. So your primary must also such as the comet 780.

I assume this means that the VC driven clutch wouldn't mate up to a stock drive clutch because the required belt size would force an upgrade to a Comet 780 drive clutch. But the Comet 780 drive clutch won't mount to the stock motor, correct?

[QUOTE=slonomo;1734425]Someone besides me actually uses anti-seize compound? Unbelievable!

I have 3 different types of never-seize -- Caterpillar copper never-seize for exhaust bolts and turbo chargers -- Nickle base never-seize for steel fixtures and aluminum base never-seize for aluminum fixtures. Best stuff to use especially if you the next to work on the machine again.
