Re: More VC625 carb voodoo/experimentation
Back at it again. I took a calipers capable of measuring depth and verified that (for sure!) the needle is at least 1mm + from seating fully in the jet. I can't cut more threads on the needle because it's an oddball thread that isn't in my set (4mm x 80). The jet that came with the adjustable needle is about 2mm/.080. What if....I opened an extra stock main jet up to something less than that and tried that? Say, 1.5-1.6 mm? The smaller hole will take less travel of the needle 'up' to bottom out.
Opinions? Ideas? Thanks! Jim |

Re: More VC625 carb voodoo/experimentation
Here's an idea that I have used -- I've used a brass flat washer salvaged from a old needle jet and shimmed the main jet down closer to the needle. You could make a shim spacer on a lathe if you have access, just don't use steel.
Drill the main jet to 1/16" or .0625 unless you have smaller drill bits -- if you had a .050 drill bit that would be better. A big jet for a Ruxin carburetor would be in the .040's range |

Here's a few pictures of the experimental work I've done that works.

Re: More VC625 carb voodoo/experimentation
I found some perfectly sized brass washers to use as spacers at McMaster-Carr. Gonna' try that in the next day or so. Your nice knurled mixture screw sure makes mine that I soldered 1/4 steel tubing on look humble. Nice work!

I think you can buy that little brass knurled screw.
